The project is situated just outside the Grange Conservation Area on Edinburgh’s Southside. It is a single aspect lower ground floor flat facing the communal garden to the back of the tenement block.

The project poses some key challenges. The lower ground flat is single aspect with limited daylight. We opened up the layout to allow maximum daylight to penetrate into the plan. This combined with an artificial lighting scheme will help to enhance internal lighting levels.

Direct access to the communal garden is proposed. The existing living room window will be altered to create a new full-height external glazed door.

We have added a third bedroom to allow the clients to resell the flat as a three bedroom property. Removal of an existing hall cupboard will create a more generous entrance area.
