Save Leith Walk is a grassroots public campaign created by local residents and business owners who want to challenge the demolition of an Art Deco building which houses 40 independently, locally-owned shops and small businesses in the heart of our community. The campaign aims to protect the heritage of Leith Walk and celebrate the essence of the Leith community.

Cunningham Heavin are passionate about community-led design, placemaking and real community engagement. We assisted with the Community Planning Workshop in January 2019 to assist the community in proposing an alternative vision for the Stead’s Place site and existing Art Deco building. We are actively empowering our community to better engage in re-making place from within and giving renewed purpose to an established site so that old and young, families and singles, established enterprises and start-ups can live together now and form the basis of a sustainable inclusive community for the future. We utlised our skills as architects to visualise the communities vision and distilled them in a series of masterplans.
